A Bit About Me
Hi, I am Katelyn Buerkel, known to most as "Katie", I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and lived there until my family moved to Petoskey, Michigan in 2016. The move impacted me greatly. I was an urban kid moving to a small rural town where everyone knew everybody. It was intimidating, I remember feeling like I couldn’t express my creativity due to trying to fit in. I lost touch with my artistic self and focused on my athletic journey. I played varsity softball and participated in the club powerlifting team. These sports shaped me, giving me the ability to work with others and a driven work ethic. During my last year of high school, I decided to take a Photoshop class at North Central Michigan College. It was at this point I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I would choose Central Michigan University to further this passion. My first year at Central was all online so it was an interesting first take at college. By my second year of college, COVID-19 rates were decreasing, and things were slowly going back to normal. In the spring of that year, I would apply for the graphic design program. I remember being nervous but once I was admitted I grew confidence within myself that I was lacking in the past. In my third year at CMU, I began to connect with my peers in the program. This I find special because I love the bond we all share and the memories we are making in our final years here at school.
